Why is Paneer so overrated?

Category : Casual

Paneer, Ponir, Panneer... These are the words that rule the food industry / market accross India (and even in other parts of the world)

Internationally, Paneer is the most common Indian form of cheese, and in India, it is the most popular food item / component of dishes

Tastewise, paneer is tasteless... ask a paneer fan if he would like to eat a raw cube of paneer, his answer would be definitely "no". Then what makes paneer so popular? Maybe the fact that it is tasteless, makes it a popular part of several side dishes and snacks. And also that it is rich in calories in fat. You can find paneer dishes served in roadside "dhaba" to a 7 star hotel, ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 500.

The extreme craze for paneer is evident from a very funny incident that happened with me... I ordered for a vegetable soup (which is supposed to be a health concious drink) and it had cubes of paneer in it :-)

Paneer has its roots in Northern India, but now famous throughout the world... Its called by different names like "Panneer" in South India and "Ponir" in Eastern India.

But from a health point of view, be aware that paneer is difficult to digest and its undigested particles cause cholesterol and blockage...
